Hello Kitty

Most Chinese women seem to like 'cute'. They wear clothes with Mickey Mouse on them, teddy bears or heaven forbid; Hello Kitty. You cannot go into any shop and not find the Hello Kitty version of something. We are not just talking stationary anymore, or clothes, but this goes as far as household appliances. There is even a toaster that will burn a Hello Kitty into your toast. What a way to start the day........
I have even seen cars totally pimped Hello Kitty style. Looking even more hilarious when driven by a guy...... Now my daughter liked Hello Kitty when she was like 5 years old. She grew out of it again. But what is up with all these women here???
Now Baby's mother may be Chinese, she does not like Hello Kitty. So one of the things we share is that we like to make jokes about all the Hello Kitty's we run into. And I tell you, we see a lot of them here!!!
Last night she went out shopping for Chinese New Years gifts. And she brought back a gift for me too. Yep, you got it, these wonderful Hello Kitty slippers!!! I had to really laugh, as they are so over the top they are funny again. And I have to admit warm (we are having a bit of a cold spell here) and comfy.
So punishment for Baby's mum is she will have to look at them while I wear them around the house the next couple of weeks. As that is what I intend to do.
Unless Benny the 7 month old puppy (part Rottweiler thus named after the Pope) gets his teeth into them. He already ate my flip flops, mopped the floor with a pair of my socks and tried to have a go at my Dansko's.

De meeste Chinese vrouwen lijken erg van 'schattig' te houden. Ze dragen kleding met Mickey Mouse, teddyberen of nog erger: Hello Kitty opdruk. Je kan hier geen winkel binnengaan en niet van alles ook een Hello Kitty uitvoering vinden. En we hebben het niet alleen over schrijfwaren, of kleding, maar zelfs huishoudelijke apparaten. Zo is er een broodrooster die een Hello Kitty in je toast brandt. Wat een manier om de dag te beginnen.........
Ik heb zelfs auto's gezien, helemaal gepimpt in Hello Kitty stijl. Wat helemaal belachelijk is als er een man achter het stuur zit. Nou was mijn dochter gek op Hello Kitty toen zij een jaar of 5 was. En ze is er weer overheen gegroeid. Maar wat is er aan de hand met al die vrouwen hier???
Nu mag de moeder van Baby dan wel Chinees zijn. Zij houdt niet van Hello Kitty. Dus een van de dingen die wij delen is dat wij grapjes maken over alle Hello Kitty onzin die wij hier tegenkomen. En dat is veel!
Gisteravond ging ze winkelen om Chinees Nieuwjaarskado's te kopen. En ze bracht ook een kadootje voor mij mee. Ja, je raadt het al, deze geweldige Hello Kitty pantoffels. Ik moest er erg om lachen want ze zijn zo erg dat ze weer leuk zijn. En ik moet bekennen warm (er passeert hier een koufrontje) en ze zitten lekker. Dus de straf voor Baby's moeder is dat zij er voorlopig tegenaan mag kijken. Omdat ik van plan ben om ze te dragen hier in huis de komende weken.
Tenzij Benny, de 7 maanden oude puppy (gedeeltelijk Rottweiler dus vernoemd naar de Paus), zijn tanden erin zet. Hij heeft mijn teenslippers al opgegeten, de vloer gedweild met mijn sokken, en geprobeerd mijn Dansko's te pakken te krijgen.



On a different note, Baby's mum also thought the slippers were 'a balancing feature' to show off my butterfly. Hmm, not sure what that means, but this photo does show that it dried up nicely!

Even iets anders, Baby's moeder vond ook dat de pantoffels een 'balanserende toevoeging' hebben op het laten uitkomen van mijn vlinder. Hmm, niet zeker wat dat nu weer betekent, maar deze foto laat wel zien dat hij mooi opgedroogd is!
